Project: DC Water Storage / Pumping Systems

 | This system is the re-design of what once was a gravity feed system. While these systems are normally effective, we have found that in many cases where the water is taken from a deep well, 300+ feet, the pump power requirements using an AC pump are very high-almost 1800 watts or more. Using a DC pumping system where water is stored in a garage or shed, then using DC surface pumps to provide pressure can reduce the amount of power consumed greatly. This system went from using 1800 watts to just 150 watts for well pump and pressure pump systems combined. Further, since these systems are DC, they do not require power supplied from the inverter. The size of this system is to accommodate garden irrigation.

DC systems can be designed and assembled to fit any application. This system was for a small cabin and larger home to be built later near Clancy, Montana. The tank system in this case is designed to be expandable. The DC well pump fills the Poly-Tanks as required operated by a float. The well, drilled to 190’, is low production-only 3+ gallons per minute. This is the other advantage of this system. DC well pumps can be sized and set to operate at less than the well’s output, thereby allowing constant water production with low power consumption, and adequate water storage for occupant use.
